Sigh.. another long day at the Genesis Foundation. Normally it's not that bad, however my position was recently changed from answering phones or as I refered to it, being a super sexy male secretary, to a telemarketing man-whore..
Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme, I guess it's not quite that bad.. I mean, somewhere around fifty calls or so, you begin to tune out that little voice inside of you that usually says something to the effect of, "Telemarketing is a sin against mankind" and "Chances are you are really bothering the people you call." After that it's a breeze.. you just slide into the comfortable numbness of being totally apathetic as to the plight of the people you disturb. "what? your dog just got run over by a car, and just found out you are going to die within the next 26 hours? That's great, hey let me tell you about the Genesis program!" I am getting quite good at it. So watch out John Baughmans of the world. You think you're going to sleep in on saturday? I am coming for you.
Which brings me to my point- I have found that when confronted by a telemarketer, most people try and be as rude as they can in the most polite way possible. I just don't get it. If you are going to be rude, just be rude- trust me, we don't care, we don't get off the phone and weep because someone we have never heard of doesn't like us.. go ahead- cut me off in the middle of a sentence, just don't try and hide it by saying something like "I am very sorry, sir- I am just not interested at this time" If you're going to cut me off, at least say something that represents your true hatred for what I do- for example "Don't ever call again you vermin-ridden fart-sniffing liberal!" Go ahead, let go of that pent up aggression and give it a try the next time you get called in the middle of something important- it's not like we can insult you back..
which brings me to my real point-
Hats.
People just aren't wearing enough of them.
