An Early Wedding Present.

So it wasn't the flu that struck Lisa a month before her wedding date. They had been worried because she was sick to her stomach and barely kept things down. But it passed, and so did Lisa's time of the month and she didn't think much of it. There was too much stress in the final wedding preparations that she figured it would just end up hitting on the day before and put a kink on her wedding plans. Murphy's law and all.

But when she missed the second one she got a bit worried. Without telling Dean, she went to her friend's house to take a pregnancy test. When it came up positive she called her doctor right away for an appointment. She couldn't get married and not know.

The ultrasound though made her fall in love with another man though. Or at least, she hoped it was a baby boy she was staring at on the screen. It's hard to tell when they look like a tadpole.

But she knew that she had to tell Dean before the wedding. They could tell everyone else at the reception - what better time - but he needed to know. He was just turned twenty two now, and that freedom he had was going to be cut even shorter than a marriage did.

She was curled up on the couch, holding the envelope with the baby picture in it as she waited for Dean to come back to their apartment. She was sipping a glass of sparkling cider and hoping he got there before she got herself worked up emotionally again like she had been at the doctor's office.

Worried that this was too much. That he was going to walk away. She couldn't handle it if he did that. And what would she do? She had no idea how to be a mother. She needed him more than ever now.

It was all going to come down to how this conversation went, and she had no idea what she was going to say when that door opened.
