SNL/S60/false ships/Glenn Close drives me crazy

  1. I can't get over how much I love this sketch. It makes my life every time I watch it.
  2. God, Studio 60 is so good. It's absurd. It should be illegal for any show to be this excellent. It is literally just like...the West Wing, except on the set of a TV show, and it's more ideological. And more personal. I think I cry at the end of about 75% of the ( Read more... )

Okay, #4, yessssssss! I try to stay away from Sunset Boulevard at all costs. Not gonna lie, I've watched clips on YouTube too and she pretty much ruined that show for me. But then I turn around and watch her on Damages and I watch Fatal Attraction or The Big Chill (more Glenn and William Hurt love) or Dangerous Liaisons and I forget all about Sunset Boulevard. So I guess I should be thankful for that. And seriously, was it the Golden Globes when she rolled out in her grandmothers curtains disguised as a jacket? That was terrible.

PS, I'm watching old episodes of Crumbs right now. Oh how I wish that show would have lasted more than half a season.

T'was indeed the Globes that got the curtain jacket from grannyland. She seems to be able to dress for chat shows but fucking hell, she cannot for the love of anything dress for bigger more glam events.
This picture pretty much seems to sum up Glenn and award show fashion:

To erase all the other bad images from my mind, I try to remember this from 2005:

Oh man, that one's pretty good. I only wish her hair was a little longer to match the flowiness of the dress, but I like the overall look.

I also love these ones:

I've noticed that, usually, the bigger the event, the more she screws it up, with a couple of exceptions. And that is a very, very good example. I'd feel a lot better if she'd just make up her mind about whether she wants to look terrible and stuck with it so I can brace myself before I turn the TV on.

Interesting picture selection. :D If you're trying to dissuade me from shipping Allison/Patty I think you've been successful.

I think she must have won that year for Sunset Boulevard...she couldn't have won for a play because Cherry won for The Heiress, and I'm pretty sure Glenn's only won for one musical. Gross. Well, I guess she was just paying homage to the horrific performance with her wardrobe/hair selection.

I remember reading a review of her in Sunset and it basically said that she's got the acting down but can't sing and act at the same time which is pretty unfortunate in a musical. All we can do is hope the film version doesn't become a reality.

Ever seen this? It's one of those interviews which makes me really like her and forget the singing issue.

That's a pretty good way to look at it. I generally think she can't sing at all, but the acting probably didn't help. :P I definitely think she's a good pick for that role though, in terms of the personality characteristics and acting required for it.

Oh man, seriously, I live in fear of the movie version. It'll be like Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia, just...so much worse. I might see it, just because...like when you go to a theme park and you know you probably shouldn't go on that ride where they pull you up 20 stories high and just drop you straight down, but you just want to experience the horror.

I haven't, but I'm watching it right now! Man, she is amazinggg at interviews.

Oh man, seriously; I'm not that familiar with the musical itself but I love the songs and she just makes me hate it. The thing that bothers me is that she can sing; she knows how to do all the hard stuff, but she just overdoes it until it sounds terrible. If she just chilled a little bit I think she could be pretty good. But she seems to think she's great as it is ( ... )
