At least we hope so.
oneandonlymatt met with our Realtor yesterday. We are putting our house on the market! I know what you all are saying - "What? Now?" And yes, now. There are a few motivating factors to this. First, we don't *have* to sell our house. If it doesn't sell, no big deal. We also don't owe more on it than it is worth, also a bonus. Our realtor, the same one who helped us buy this house, is really aggressive and that is why we love him. Other homes are selling in our neighborhood to it bodes well for us.
Besides those very realistic reasons to give it a shot now, it is also that we are desperate for a change of lifestyle. We loved the house and we have enjoyed living it in for the last 6 years. However, we are ready for something different. We learned some things in this place.
1) We don't nearly need this much space for two adults and a cat.
2) We hate home maintenance
3) We want to be more independent and self sufficient and even though we can afford this mortgage we don't want to any more.
4) We want a very different lifestyle. One where we can walk to restaurants and stores.
On top of that, we have 15 acres in North Carolina where the maintenance and building are enjoyable. There are so many projects we have planned for it. Plus we own it outright and are almost done with our cabin so in the case of a Zombie Apocalypse, we're covered. It is a very defensible position.
We are very excited about it. The house will go on the market March 1st and if and when we get an offer we're going to start looking at places in Sandy Springs. (I still work in Alpharetta, after all, so as much as I would love to live closer to Atlanta, I don't want to drive forever to get to work each day!)
So, wish us luck in this endeavor.
