The Memory Game

Oct 20, 2009 15:50

[OOC: To recap what's been decided so far: J.R.'s got Rodger, Kris is taking Mrs. Wyndham-Pryce (did we decide on a first name?). If anyone wants to jump in at any time, Rodger's got guests over, other old retiree Watchers and young greenhorns who escaped the Council's destruction and are trying, under Rodger, to form a new Council. They've not really been effectual so far. This is all happening at the W-P family home, and ancient, secluded house in Kent. There's going to be some attempting of Rodger to talk Wes into joining his new Council, but the main event here is Rodger's mass purge of control spells on Wes, which will break the memory charm. Any questions?]

Wesley hadn't been home in a long time.

The house seemed older than he remembered, smaller, and perhaps faded, though how much of that was memory and how much was age, Wesley didn't know. The gravel still crunched under his feet on the driveway as he got out of his rental care, and the knocker still resounded through the house like a thunderclap when he raised and brought it down. For a moment, he was fourteen again, coming home from school on an ominous gray May morning, dreading the summer hols. He suspected he was going to have a lot of those moments.

As he waited at the door, he ran through mentally the conversation he had with Father only a week ago. Rodger Wyndham-Pryce had been suspiciously courteous on the telephone, asking Wesley to come and visit his mother, who missed him after so many years abroad. Wesley hadn't bought it for a second, but if Father was up to something, Wesley felt he had a duty to find out what.
