Identity of a French Knight

I'm looking for a historical figure, a French knight or soldier who fought throughout Europe during the Renaissance. I read a wikipedia article on him, so I know he's in there, but I haven't been able to find him. He had kind of a grandiose name, though I can't recall it, and I believe he was a bit of a legendary figure even in his own time. I'm almost certain he and Cesare Borgia fought together, though I've researched Borgia's allies and associates with no luck. Especially with the Italian/Borgia connection I started thinking maybe he'd been a mercenary, but I don't think he was associated with any band or group, and I've looked into all the condittiere I can find with no result. I remember clearly that he fought well into his fifties (possibly his sixties) and that at one point he defended this gate or bridge from a whole bunch of opposing troops by himself. If I remember correctly, he also survived his career, and eventually retired and died as an old man of natural causes.

Can anybody help me out? This man was a bad ass, and I want to be able to talk about him without having to just call him "that French guy."
