Science Fiction book
I remember reading this book when I was very young and the subject matter was a little beyond me... so I apologize for the incredible vague-ness. It was my older brother's book, and unfortunately he doesn't remember it.
Starts with main character (most likely a her) at a library where they basically download info into their brains (it's not reading anymore, some kind of helmet thing). She leaves library and gets tense at a stranger whose face she can't see. Feels as though she is in mortal danger for a reason unknown. Stranger passes and she un-tenses.
SPACE ADVENTURE.
(Possible ?) alternate realities.
At the end or late-mid she goes back to kill her past self before series of events happen, is the stranger from beginning. Decides not to shoot.
It's possible that I was trying to relate to a book and the main character was not female. Any help you have is appreciated, this has been driving me crazy for years.
