Dessert Recipe from Spanish-speaking country

Hello!

When I took a Spanish course, our teacher had the students each prepare and bring in a meal from a Spanish-speaking country. A classmate had brought in a dessert that was sweet potato or yam-based. It didn't have marshmallows, pecans, or raisins but it did have white rice. I suppose it would be along the lines of a casserole or a rice pudding because the sweet potato/yam was fairly mashy. The rice itself seemed sugared and a bit stiff, but the classmate had said he "messed up the rice part a little."
It would have to be a dessert recipe from a country which speaks Spanish. No clue on how indigenous or authentic it would have been, but he passed the assignment so it must have been somewhat accurate. I would like to know what in the world the dish is called; a recipe is totally a bonus but not at all necessary. Any ideas?
