movie, perhaps set in Brazil?

There is a movie I am thinking of, but I can only remember the last bit of it. If I'm correct, it's a foreign film and has subtitles. I believe it is set in Brazil, and two friends bring an older woman with them on, like, a two day road-trip leading to a beach somewhere. I think she's running away with them. They get lost on country roads and after some time they drive right onto the beach, leaving the car on the sand. One boy sits in the sand and it shows memories of him being at that beach when he was a child, I'm pretty sure. There is a beach community of some kind there, and in the end of the movie the older woman, who I think is dying of cancer or something, decides she wants to stay there by the water until she dies, and urges the boys to leave without her. I feel like I may be getting details confused with City of God or City of Men, if this isn't a part from either of those movies. If it is, I appologize, but thank you if you can help!
