Allies and privilege
Argle frargle! So, I've disappeared from LJ as I got involved in my local Occupy Movement. Specifically, I'm involved in the development of the "Marginalized Communities and Allies" group. There are two things we have to do with this, simultaneously.
One is educate people joining the movement who may have never had to confront their privilege before, and may be experiencing vast diversity of people, cultures, beliefs for the first time.
Two is creating a safe space within the movement for POC, QUILTBAG, persons with disabilities, as the Occupy Movement is not inherently a safe space.
We've got a lot of educational links already, but can anyone suggest anything?
Also, there are tow things I'm looking for that I seem to have lost. One is the analogy about the dog and the ? in the winter, and the dog not understanding why the heat would need to be turned up.
The other is for comic relief, the explanation about showing your ass on the internet. Any help?
