Ok, guys. Googling for these didn't help me, so I must have some of the words wrong. The first two were on an alternative rock sort of station called K-SLG. The other I heard on VH-1 when I was up early one morning.
SONG ONE: I caught some lyrics while in my friend's car and she wouldn't stop talking to me so I may have messed them up. The lyrics I wrote down are "does nothing," "follow the sound," and "guitar." Combining these things doesn't bring me up anything relevant. I may be wrong about the sound, but it had almost a Modest Mouse feel to it. Their newer stuff, that is. I could be confusing it though, now that I can no longer hear it in my head.
SONG TWO: This next song was another attempt to catch the lyrics that apparently failed. All I could hear was what I thought was "together riding." That lyric gets repeated over and over and I think it's the chorus. It was hard to understand, and though I'm nearly positive he does say "together," the second word could have been "dying," "waiting," "fighting"... Whatever. That one had an Atmosphere feel, if you know who they are. White boy rap with some passion and music behind it.
SOLVED! Cobra Starship- The City is at War" for both the song I was looking for and what plays in the background of the commercial
SONG THREE: I keep getting reminded of this one because it sounds like it's playing in the background of the Top Chef commercials. Speaking of, anyone know what IS playing in those? Anyhow, it was young guys and I thought it was Tokio Hotel. But I don't know anything about that band, really, so I must have just read wrong. I thought the lyrics were something about being "young and rich" but that doesn't give me any results that would fit what I'm looking for. This song was definitely more of a whiny emo kid sounding tune. So, of course, it's gonna be impossible decipher which of three million identical bands it was. But hey, a girl can try.
SOLVED! Flobots- Rise I don't know why I didn't think of them. It totally sounded like them, too. *is dense*
Thanks for any suggestions you can spare!
