Have been watching Mawaru Penguindrum. Pretty interesting, though it's getting more and more disturbing moments. Found it easier to get into than Utena. It's got allot of allusions to a particular Japanese author that are hard for non-japanese to miss. Maybe the eventual dub's DVD should come with a guide to all the allusions in the series.
Watched Madoka Magica months ago, never mentioned it here. Pretty good. People who say it is THE BEST ANIME and THE DEEPEST SHOW are deludin themselves, but it adresses alot of the things that bothered me about other magical girl series. Also despite being seinen, it has some fun commonalities with Princess Tutu, including mentors whose ultimate goal is to induce misery for fun or profit, allusions to european folklore and literature, and the magical girls essensially being powered by forbidden heart/soul magic. (You could easily say that Princess Tutu is powered by Mythos' soul gem, or that the puella magi are powered by their own heart shards.) I like that both series make it so that tranformation charms aren't cheap, easy magic.
Watching some of Persona 4 the Animation. Consensus of the internet is that any anime with "the animation" in its name is going to be kind of bland. So far it's just a cliffsnotes' summary of the game plot, with very few real attempts to flesh out the characters. The best parts are probably the shadow battles, if only because that seems to be the only area where innovation is actually taking place.
Started playing Last Specter. Is it just me, or is this PL game more self-aware than previous ones? Emmy comes across as Level-5 trying to correct all the mistakes they made when they created Flora. Love how she listed all the information she researched about Layton, right down to his star sign, and how Layton was kind of bamboozled by that. The storytelling and visual presentation have improved, but I Am Dissapoint concerning the puzzles. Giving the player more puzzles to solve does not make up for the fact that most of those puzzles are stupidly easy.
The pony equivalent of Halloween is about preventing canibalism from the pony equivalent of Lucifer. Brony culture getting is kind of dull, but the show itself can be a thing of beauty even when it does forget continuity. My little pony's always been kind of a cracky canon, it's just that now it finally has interesting characters to enact the crack.
