What is your ethernet cable plugged into? The wireless router? How do you have the different devices chained together? Draw me a picture or something :-P

Try hooking the cable modem directly up to your computer without the router in between. If that works, it's the router, not your comp.
ok so that worked. i dotn know why i didnt try that before. the ethernet card lites up again and i can get the internet direct from the cable modem box.
so i guess the router got fried?? (cept still allows wireless to work?)
sounds like the ethernet jacks got fried... I second you hooking your comp directly to the router, if that doesn't work, take the computer that has wireless and connect it to the router with an ethernet cable and shut off the wireless, if it doesn't connect then the router is more than likely fucked.

And yeah, it's entirely possible that the wireless "part" of the router is intact and the wired part isn't.
At least you know where the problem area is now. The winsock thing is unlikely.
