Had a great time last night with old friends (one from h.s. in TN! haven't seen her in years) and college friends...
motospeedfreek whipped up SUCH a yummy meal for all of us. Man, that girl can cook! I am luuuu-cky. *blush* Anyway: I slept 3.5 hours last night and woke to a damn early-sounding alarm. It was very hard to leave my snuggly girl in bed and pull on the ol' spandex, especially with my so-full belly from not so many hours before!
After a harrowing 45-minute drive through Boston construction (you know that stuff that goes on from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.? yeah, I hit a lot of that), I was on the water with my paddling team by 5:00. The sun was sneaking up through dazzling pink clouds and the sea was glass calm. According to my coach, I'm finally getting the hang of the stroke (though I feel I have a long way to go before I can put any real power behind it), and I'm learning my teammates pretty well. There is a race on Saturday (I'm not in it -- not yet!) so at the end of practice we derigged the canoes and loaded them onto the trailer. This finally gave me a holistic idea of what all the boat parts are called and how they fit together. SO cool.
There was a TON of traffic on 95/93 on my way back home, and that has swept away some of my raw happiness, so it's tough for me to describe here how perfect this whole canoe thing is. Forcing myself to wake up early to do an aquatic sport (besides showering)... I'd forgotten how great it is! How have I been living without this?
Now, with my fuddled and sleepy brain, I'm off to schedule our department faculty's office hours... apologies in advance if someone ends up with MW at 10 p.m.
I might have to look into drinking coffee on Wednesdays.....
