question: fresh vegetables

Can one cook fresh green beans in the crock pot? If so for how long? (I'm assuming they would cook less time than meat and may need to be added later).

cooking times, vegetables

I have done them both ways, right at the beginning and later in the cooking cycle. If you put them in at the beginning, depending on the cook time, they either come out perfect or a little mushy. I haven't mastered when to put them in later in the cycle, though. When I do that they almost always come out underdone :/

Is it an issue of you being there? I love to steam my veggies, and it only takes, like, 5 minutes.

no, I'm unemployed atm, so I'm home all day. Steaming is also an option, but I wanted to know how long I could cook them in the sauce without ending up with mushy strings.

I may just do that and save crocking green beans for another day. Thanks.

Oh, okay. I haven't tried it in the crock yet, except for stews, etc. when they're cooked with.

I did a veggie mixture including green beans, broccoli, zuchinni, and I forget what else. I put it on high for about an hour and a half to two hours, but I did lift the lid to check on it. And they came out yummy! They were a little crunchy when the rest was good, so I probably left it on for the two hours. I ended up adding a dash of chicken broth to add a little flavor.
