(A friend of mine suggested I post this here.) I have a gaming group over on Saturday nights and always do a crockpot dinner, this was a huge hit last week, and unlike some of my receipes, not only did I like it but I think it got better reheated. I've added my changes to the original receipe. I'm always looking for different ways to do chicken as the group has people who don't eat red meat and people allergic to peppers.
Pizz-sana (Its supposed to be slow cooked pizza but they said it was pizza/lasagana)
1 package (16oz) extra wide egg noodles (NOTE - I actually used 1 1/2 packages, but I have 2 guys in thier 20s in the group, big eaters.)
2 lbs ground turkey or chicken
3 medium jars of Prego spaghetti sauce - 1 mushroom, 1 three cheese, 1 regular
2 packages of fresh mushrooms
butter
Pepper
garlic and herb seasoning (special mix - I think its by McCormick)
1 ½ tsps Pizza seasoning
Any other seasoning that comes to mind. :)
3 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Cook noodles according to package directions and drain then set aside. In a large skillet sauté the mushrooms with butter and pepper and the ‘garlic and herb’ seasoning, then set aside. Then cook the ground meat with pepper and seasoning (I threw in some Italion seasoning for grins and giggles). While all this is going on, mix the sauces together with the pizza seasoning and simmer.
In a 5-qt slow cooker coated with nonstick cooking spray, spread ½ of the noodles, cover with ½ the sauces, then meat and mushrooms. Next add ½ of the cheese. Repeat with the rest of the noodles, sauce, meat, mushrooms and cheese. Cover and cook on low for 3 - 4 hours or until heated through and cheese is melted. I added a small amount of pizza seasoning on top of the last layer of cheese.
