Prologue

In was a rainy day, today, in Amsterdam. Everyone one still went about their normal business, but most with a greater sense of urgency. Something about the rain to make people feel important. Because they can't, like, believe this is happening to them... on today of all days. Geez!

Our man Bill sits at a cafe table along Rue de Kampf, choking down his much worse than anticipated espresso, reading the March 2005 issue of High Times: the Ultimate Grow Issue. Bill, like most other American nerds who get up at 7:00, got up today at 7:00. He showered in his private Bed & Breakfast motel room, was out by 7:10, had his socks on at 7:12, belt, 7:13 and 22 seconds. He dined, alone, in the quaintly decorated dining room at Chez Renault on Frosted Flakes and an orange flavored beverage of some sort. The Frosted Flakes he brought from home. He's been on a trip like this before, and doesn't care too much for the quintessential Dutch Breakfast.

A fairly attractive, tall, red-headed Dutch girl emerges from his peripheral. She's anywhere between the 17 and 21-year-old demographic. He first notices her umbrella. One of those 70's, mod umbrellas with an overly pronounced arch, almost a perfect semi-spherical shape, completely transparent if not for a bold yellow trim about 2.54 cm thick running along the entire outer perimeter of the umbrella. He notices her hat, her coat, her breasts, her boots, her legs, her ass, her purse, her gloves, her face, in that order. His eyes wander back to the page and he continues to learn about the ebb and flow system as he adds more sugar to his cold espresso.
