Life is one big scuba dive - a massive trip into the blue that will take me through uncharted territories, and the education and experience I receive throughout life is the air that fills my scuba tank. Math equations, chemical structures, and essay formats, all of this along with some life changing opportunities, are used to fill my tank and support me throughout my life. While diving the only mechanism allowing me to breathe is my scuba tank. Coastal Carolina University will become my tank and facilitate my education and unforgettable experiences.
When I prepare to dive I fill my tank with Nitrox, 40% oxygen and 60% nitrogen, the perfect blend to fulfill the maximum depth and duration of my dive plan. Consequently I am prepared for anything that may occur while submerged. This is the reason for my application to Coastal Carolina University. Reminiscent of Nitrox, Coastal offers a diverse education, including a liberal arts background while sustaining a sturdy emphasis on the marine science major, which I intend on pursuing. Along with the education Coastal offers, its countless other attributes reflect precisely what I desire: study abroad options, a 19:1 student/faculty ratio, professors (Dan Abel, Paul Gayes, Robert Young) involved in research, along with a picturesque campus, and over 1000 acres on Waites Island. This makes Coastal an all-around impressive package.
Aesthetics of a university is not all that should be considered. Whether or not the college inspires me to follow my career path and further my knowledge and understanding is the most crucial. Seal Island in the Isle of Shoals was my first ocean dive, and as I penetrated through the frigid water a whole world opened up to me. At that moment I was no longer secluded to life on land; I was inspired to further explore the vast blue abyss where I had recently been exposed. Coastal Carolina University will heighten my inspiration and infatuations with the mystery that is the ocean and all of its entities. Through broadened exploration and explanations, it is clear to me that the education and experience Coastal offers will support me in extending my knowledge and passion for marine science throughout the extent of my life.
