1.1 "Every single line means something." ~ jean-michel basquiat

http://www.gagosian.com/exhibitions/britannia-street-2006-10-douglas-gordon/ 1.3 have worked a lot today on the acrylic painting and it is really turning out. as always, i never would have thought it would turn out like this. after fighting it and working with it for days i have gone for the 'fire in the hole' approach and cleared away much of what i had layed down previously and it opened up the composition a lot. there is still something not quite satisfactory about it. i think that what i miss in all of my work is that concistency that would be my mark and calling card. but this is a good one, and i look forward to bringing it to seattle to finalize and show it off. the old title 'hanging upside-down (in a dream i had)' or whatever i had, will no longer suffice.
1.4 this morning i had fun revisiting the opening of the film downtown 81, the low-budget underground flick featuring one of my heroes, jean-michel basquiat and many fixtures of the new york 'no wave' scene. it is great, i can't shake it, and i needed to paint.
