I'll always associate him with first year university, the thrill of questioning and a professor whose tangible enthusiasm for the written word still inspires me, all after these years.
As a kid/teenager I LOVED her Witch World novels. I still have a little crush on Kerovan from The Crystal Gryphon, and Joisan was one of those females that just really kicked ass for an impressionable 12 year old.
