New Orleans is one of my favorite vacation spots. I had a trip booked for September 11th. I usually don't go down there in the summer but it was supposed to be a gift to my son for his 30th birthday because he is a big fan of trolleys. We were supposed to go down in July but we had to delay the trip. I guess you never know when all hell is going to break lose. I canceled my trip yesterday. I have been watching the news all day and have been horrified at how those people are suffering. Just two weeks later and I might have been one of them.
I have always enjoyed my visits to New Orleans because the people are so friendly and warm. It breaks my heart that the world will only remember the looting and carnage that took place this week. I hope that some miracle happens and the town can be restored to it's original beauty. I pray for the survivors and hope they get help soon.
I have posted here some of my favorite images from New Orleans that I took last December.
Partying in the French Quarter is a tradition.
The natives are so friendly.
When I was there in December I bought my husband a shirt from the Firehouse. The firemen were so friendly they invited us in to talk. People who live in New Orleans are very proud of their heritage. I pray those firemen are safe.
This is Decater Street. Lots of restaurants and shopping.
This tree took my breath away.
The riverboat is so relaxing. It's usually the first place I head when I arrive to unwind and get into the spirit of the Big Easy.
This is Joe Clark. He is known as the "Cookie Man" He is at the corner of Canal and Bourbon St. everyday selling his home made praline cookies. I hope that he is safe.
If you want to see more pictures I have a bunch on my website.
