He didn't so much appear through a door or between steps as from a massive cloud of pink smoke and a shout of 'WEEEEHOOOO!' In fact, steps had nothing to do with it. "There's a pool? Uh, that's probably not a good idea for a hallucination. Diving into the floor isn't fun and trust me I know and don't ask unless you want to know why I know cause it's kind of a story."
