It snowed overnight here in the Delaware Valley. It looks like maybe three inches on the ground and it will "taper off this afternoon" according to the forecast, so perhaps we'll get one more inch. It will all melt Monday anyway, when the forecast high is 60 F.

It is absolutely silent in my house except when the heat rumbles on. Bliss.

 Dear Washingtonians; I know you're having a hard time with the snow. But here's a big dirty secret; even though it snows in the Mid Atlantic every winter, most drivers completely forget what to do when driving in snow for the first time each year. So don't be hard on yourself for doing barrel rolls down Dravus Street in your Volvo.

Since last evening, my corner of the Delaware Valley has received:

• three inches of snow
• goodness knows how much freezing rain
• eight hours of plain old rain.

Imagine having your driveway covered in Italian water ice. With me? Now imagine shoveling it. Gak!

Whenever Philadelphia gets snow, the north and west suburbs (where I live) usually get significantly more. Well, the coastal track of this storm had the opposite effect. We probably have 4" to 6" of white stuff while Philadelphia got closer to a foot and the New Jersey shore got slammed with about 18".
