Game: Sunnydale OSI
Who: Wesley and Laili
Where: in LA
When: Friday night
Wesley had had a wonderful time so far tonight. The opera had been lovely. Laili had been able to follow it well, and he was able to fill in the few blanks that she had here and there. Now, they were at dinner, and they had just finished ordering their food. The ring that Tia had helped him pick out was burning a hole in his pocket, but he wanted to wait until the exact right moment to ask her. "How did you enjoy the opera tonight?"
Laili smiled, and took his hand across the table. "It was so lovely. Thank you for explaining the parts to me that I didn't understand." That had been part of the enjoyment of the evening, really, hearing Wesley's take on things.
Wesley smiled back at her. "I'm glad to explain anything that you need. I'm just happy that you liked it as well." He wasn't exactly sure what to say next. He felt a little distracted, since his mind kept drifting back to the ring. He looked happy, though.
"Is everything alright?" Laili asked, noting his distraction. "Are you tired? It has been a long night..." The oprea'd been pretty long, plus the drive and then the drive to the restaurant.
He kept smiling at her. "Actually, everything's perfect." He paused. "Well, almost perfect. Laili, how long have we been together now?"
"Oh, quite some time now. Months," Laili said, smiling back. "And all of them wonderful." She couldn't be more happy about the time they'd spent together.
It was a little earlier than he was planning to do it, but he didn't want to wait anymore. He discretely as possible reached into his pocket. "I think that...I'd like it if we could take our relationship to the next level." He stood up from his chair, walked to her's, and took her hand and got down on one knee. Other people in the restaurant were turning toward them. "Laili Sze, will you marry me?" He opened the little ring box with his free hand to show her the ring.
"Oh!" Lali gasped in surprise, looking from Wesley to the ring. "I... I yes, of course..." She couldn't believe that he wanted to marry her - problems and all. "Oh Wesley...yes, I'll marry you."
He quite possibly had the biggest, goofiest grin on his face at the moment. He took the little ring out of the box and slid it onto her ring finer. Luckily, Tia had picked out the right size. "Saya cinta awak, Laili," he said, looking into her eyes. He was about to reach up and kiss her....and then he became aware of the applause around him. Looking around, a little bewildered, he saw people standing up and clapping. "I sort of forgot that we had an audience."
Laili blushed, and smiled to the people applauding. "Thank you," she said to them, and showed off the ring. She thought it was quite lovely. "I think it's wonderful that you didn't mind the audience..." She meant more than that, of course. She also meant that she was pleased that he wasn't embarassed to be with her, considering that she was rather... not-quite-human. "Saya cinta awak, Wesley. I'll be very proud to be your wife."
"I'll be very proud to be your husband." He finally did reach and give her a quick kiss. "I'm now glad that Tia helped me to pick out the ring."
"Does she approve?" Laili asked, somewhat nervous. "And have you told her... about me?"She didn't want to say 'that I eat babies!' loudly in a restaurant.
"She approves of the marriage. I haven't told her yet about everything else; I thought that maybe we should try to do that together." That actually brought up another point. "There's something being started at work called Project Redemtion that I think you may be interested in as well."
"Oh?" Laili asked. "What's that about?"
"It's a new branch of our organization that tries to help...supernaturals in exchange for working with them and sometimes information. You don't have to if you don't want to, but I thought it might be something that you would be interested in." He wasn't trying to push her or anything, but he thought that they may be able to help her work with her "condition" better.
"Is it safe?" Laili asked. She didn't want anyone to hurt her, or Amir. "I'm a bit nervous about that... you'd be able to keep an eye on things, wouldn't you?"
"I wouldn't let them near your or Amir if I thought otherwise," Wesley said, reaching across the table for her hand. "I know that they have already approached others. I think they are even trying to recruit the bartender from Willy's. I haven't told them about you yet. I wanted to talk to you first. I'm not trying to push this on you. I just want you to think about it."
"I will think about it," Laili said, and took his hand. "If they are all like you, I'd have no problem with it. But what if some of them are less understanding? But at the same time, what if they could help us find a cure?"
He squeezed her hand. "Because they created this whole subdivision, I would hope that they are more understanding. I was also hoping that maybe they may be able to find a cure, but I wouldn't be devastated if we never found one." He fell in love with Laili for who she already was, not who she may be able to become with a cure.
Laili wrapped her arms around Wesley, and hugged him tight. He always knew just what to say to make her feel better. "I can't believe we're engaged," she said softly. "What a wonderful night..."
"It has been a wonderful night." Quite possibly the best night of his life.
"When should we get married?" Laili asked. "Oh, and how..." She wondered if he'd want o have a big wedding, or a small one.
He laughed a little. "I believe that would be up to you. We can do a big or small wedding, whenever you're ready."
"I think I'd like something small," Laili said. "But someplace pretty. And hm, I don't want to wait too long.. I'm too excited about all this. I'd love to get married soon."
"I'm ready when you're ready." Honestly, he was willing to fly to Vegas that night, but he was willing to wait if she wanted a more traditional wedding.
"If there was a way we could get married now, it wouldn't be too soon," Laili assured him.
He smiled. "There's always Las Vegas," he said, half-joking. "But would you really want to be married by an Elvis impersonator?"
Laili giggled. "That could be an adventure! Could we?"
He laughed. "If that's what you really want to do, we can do that now. We can always have a true ceremony later for everyone else to attend."
Laili smiled. "Let's!"
"That sounds like a plan to me," Wesley said, also smiling.
"Do you think your daughter would mind? Oh, and would she and Gwen perhaps look in on Amir?" Laili asked.
"I think that as long as we did a ceremony later that she could attend, she would be ok. I'm sure that the two of them would be glad to look in on Amir," Wesley said. "Do you want me to call them to ask?"
"Yes, please," Laili said. She was very excited. "This is going to be so wonderful!"
He smiled at her and excused himself to go and call his daughter and Gwen, hoping that they were even at home at the moment. After a few minutes, he returned. "She said that they would go to your apartment and check on Amir."
"Oh good... then all we have to do is figure out how to get to Vegas," Laili said, with a giggle. She felt giddy.
"I know that it's a fairly straight trip from L.A.," he said. "I'm sure that we can figure it out together."
"Let's finish our dinner then, and go from there... my future husband," Laili said, smiling again. She felt like her heart might burst from all the happiness in it.
As if on cue, their waiter arrived with their dinner. "I think that sounds like a lovely idea, future wife."
