well hello there, LJ

happy new year people who may or may not still have me on their friends list. lol it's been awhile since i posted. i think i got to qatar and completely forgot about livejournal. i actually haven't really even visited once... i think i have most you on my watch list here on my deviantart friends list as well. so i guess i've kinda been keeping up. a little anyways.

new year's day is the 5th anniversary of when ashley and i had our first date. :) though it feels wrong... not that it's been 5 years or anything between the two of us... i feel very much out of place not being with her today. this has always kinda been our holiday really.

things that have happened since i got here in august... hmmmm...
- my daughter emma was born on october 28th. i received text and pictures messages to my email address as it happened to keep up... crawford county hospital didn't have the capability to set up a webcam sort of thing, so we figured that was th next best thing. it worked out pretty well.

- ash is at home juggling time between our now 2 year old son and our 2 month old daughter.

- i have endurred extremely humid 130 degree weather. not fun. at least it has cooled down since the summer months. august was terrible

- i spend a lot of time in a 60k cargo loader. A LOT of time.

- i've had the opportunity to drive everything from strikers, MRAPs (buffalos and coyotes.... ya know...bonecrusher from the transformers movie), to excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks. i never really handled that sort of rolling stock (vehicular cargo) before.

- i've gotten to see a bit of downtown doha. the city is interesting and there is very little crime here. they were actually trying to get the summer olympics here in 2012 i think. they had build so many buildings, arenas, and other constructions to get the bid. they didn't get it (london did). so they now they have all this olympic themed stuff ... and no olympics. weird...but cool looking.

- i got to hear my son say "i love you, daddy" for the first time on christmas day. it was the best present ever. *huge grin*

i've barely put pencil to paper since being here. i can't find the time or focus to work on much artistic. i had a small stint coloring a few old drawings a couple of months back, but other than that i feel very distracted from trying to do anything artistic. i'm hoping that doesn't follow me back home. i've started to lose a bit of my fanboyishness toward transformers too... probably just because i'm not as exposed to it. i have all these projects waiting for me when i get time at home... i don't really think i'm looking forward to them though. it's probably because i have other things on my mind.

i've been reading twilight (and i shamelessly admit that). anyone i've talked who has read it to outside of the little internet community i usually keep up withto seems to absolutely love it. i really enjoy it so far. though the net reaction seems to bash it... a lot like people do with harry potter books. i was completely unaware of this until just recently. i'm glad i didn't read the opinions before. that and ashley loves the series. the books, the movie... all that involves it really. *laugh* i initially just wanted to share that with her.  :)

i think i'm going to stick to LJ a bit more for the last few weeks i'm here.

happy new year
