ACK!!! Cliffhanger city, this chapter is! There were so many good parts. The Doctor realizing he's been a complete bastard was the high point. Still, you in such a way that I can see both sides easily. I like that. I can't place blame on just one person. *sighs* You're making me think. You know that don't you? It's amazing to see how much they'll all changed. It's inevitable though. Another amazing chapter, Wendy! *applaudes*
And the Aubertide? I've got chills! Those creatures definitely didn't bring out the Doctor's finer points.
Thank you! Yes, cliffhangers abound - and if I'd given you one more page there'd have been an even worse one ;)

Oh good - because that's just what I'm after :) It's not all the Doctor being a bastard. He's got reasons for his behaviour, and it's not all him being a commitment-phobic arsehole, as sensiblecat called him in her latest fic (loved that moment). That's part of it, but there's more to it.
No, the Aubertides really didn't bring out his finest moment, and he knows that... ;)
lol - I wondered when someone would spot that my habit of chapter inflation's struck again ;) Writing merrily away today, a conversation completely ran away with me and I realised that there was no way on earth I'd pull this in in three chapters. Ah well.
Thank you! I'm trying to take into account what it would be like for a post-Doomsday Rose to meet a post-VotD Doctor. They've both changed, and I'm sure it'd take quite a while for them to grow accustomed to each other as they now are.
But cliffhangers are good! (as Dickens never said, but I'm sure he would have if he'd thought of it).
So glad you liked this chapter so much! Yes, Jack's got the weight of almost 170 years of life now; he's certainly not the occasionally shallow conman they met in 1941 London.
Chapters: 2/3 Cliffhanger: Oh, wow! There are cliffhangers and there are cliffhangers, and this was a cliffhanger!
Things I liked about this chapter: Mmmm, angst. No-one does pushing people away quite like the Doctor. Pompeii - ouch. Confrontations. "Jack asked you a question, Doctor. You don't get to ask us one before you answer it." Doctor babbling. Fake brightness. The light of excitement's back in Rose's eyes, and it's only now he's realising how much he's missed it. The Doctor cutting Jack out, every bit as transparent as his previous leather-jacketed self. Almost disconcerting to see someone played by John Barrowman not liking musicals. Jack taking the bullet meant for the Doctor. "It's called love." Doctor being speechless. Rose-with-stun-setting. Ending *grins* I thought the little guy might be evil. If the police man had had half a brain he'd have shouted that, instead of saying "it's none of your business" and trying to shoot innocent non-bystanders
( ... )
You think this was a cliffhanger? Good job I didn't give you that extra page and a bit that I could have added ;)
(Oh, and you may now have reason to add back in another element of your tally *sheepish grin*)
Yes, lots of pushing away by the Doctor, and pushing back by Rose and Jack. Wonder who'll win the push-of-war? ;) It is two against one, but the one's a lying-about-his-age 900+ Time Lord.
Yeah, Jack had to disconcert the Doctor with that It's called love bit - you think he enjoys it? I do ;)
And the police officer... I think he gets off on it really. Don't you? ;)
Or I would, but there ain't no sofa in my room. Maybe the desk chair...
Anyway, silly Doctor. Doing what he does best: jumping in feet first and sending everything topsy-turvy. But Rose and Jack surprised him, and I have a feeling they're going to keep on doing so.. ;)
Yes, I think Rose and Jack, both older, both with more experience of life than the Doctor's used to (Rose especially, since the Doctor's already spent time with Torchwood Jack), intend to keep surprising him :)
