I love this. I love the fact that you can write this tragedy of love from the doctor's perspective mainly because I'm so furious at him and the universe on Jack's behalf that I can't, but that aside this is poignant and sad and my heart of heavy just reading it. I love that he crossed his own timeline. I love that he wasn't enough of a twat not to try.

I hate that although Jack will have changed and grown and suffered and evolved by the time they meet again they may never find the right time to be who they could be to each other.

I have never craved nor begged for a sequel the way I am craving and begging tonight.

Why? this Doctor 'reads' as emotively close to Nine. This Doctor could persuade me that his prancing around the universe with Rose in Season two (which drove me mad and not in a good way) could be grieving behind a clown smile. Christ, this Doctor redeems Ten for me.

Thank you.

Okay, so I don't normally reply to other people's story responses, but I am so with you on being driven mad by the season two gallavanting. I spent the whole orginal broadcast of the season being pretty pissed at the Doctor and Rose for just leaving Jack without as much as a mention. Since then I've seen a lot more of the old doctor who series and have come to realize that is how the Doctor works, which means that I can watch the broadcast here in the States with much less fury. (It probably helps I can get my Jack fix from Torchwood now too) Still, I hope Jack punches the Doctor when he sees him again.

And now I will add my voice to the sequel begging. Please, WMR!!!!

I've read both of those actually. They're very lovely, and I'm a horrid person for not commenting on them. I'm so bad about that.

Please, you're not horrid. Not everyone who reads has time to comment ;-) I'm just happy people are reading.

Sorry if the pimping came across as a tad too forceful. It's the lack of an archive (that is hopefully soon to be remedied) and the fact that fic seems to fall through the cyber cracks that makes me... too enthusiastic. That's what it is.

Yeah, as I said in my reply to boji, I'm with you on the lack of mention of Jack :( It's the way DW is, except it wasn't entirely with Mickey.

Much as I'm a multishipper - ie I ship Doctor/Rose when it's just the two of them, and Doctor/Rose/Jack when it's three - I believe that Jack and the Doctor had a bond that Rose couldn't share, even if she tried. And those minutes in BW and POTW when it was just the Doctor and Jack - looking for Rose, after seeing Rose killed (as they thought), working together to rescue her, and then after Rose leaves and the Doctor and Jack are talking on the comms system - there's a bond there, a real indication that they understand each other and love each other on some level.

I'm not writing a sequel to this, but I am working on a mid-Torchwood fic where Jack and Ten meet. It'll have a few chapters, though I'm not sure how many yet. Working title: Finding Judas.

I look forward to it.

Thank you for your lovely, thoughtful review of this. It's a very difficult scenario, really, and I entirely agree with you about the disgrace that was the complete absence of mention of Jack in Season 2. However, that is the tradition of DW, of course. See, too, what happened after Mickey left - though they then spoilt that no-mention thing by having Jackie mention him in L&M and he turns up in the finale ( ... )

despite Jack obviously still having some kind of love for the Doctor, it's funny because although you didn't mean it this line resonates to the lyrics of a Will Young song in my mind (yes, I do have dicey taste in music) I suppose a part of me does see this as an 'all time love' pun intended.

I'd love to have seen the Doctor have moments of wretchedness, in series 2 and to have mourned Jack. But then I'd have loved continuity and the downplaying of panto!doctor.

Really, thank you for this.

Would be that I had the time to ask you to attempt co-authorship & write a multi-part fic/opus in which you wrote the Doctor and I wrote Jack.

*grin*
