So touching for so few words. I still love stories that take place after the wall and before Bad Wolf Bay, exploring how Rose and Pete got to the point of seeing each other as family. There are sadly few. Might have to remedy that.

Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it.

If you do remedy that omission (I won't, because I sort of hate the thought of working with Rose broken and devastated, even if I'd like to think of her doing her best to live with what life's dealt her), you might consider starting before the Wall: what made Pete go to get her? Yes, Jackie begged him, but it had to be more than that. Had he already started to think of Rose as his daughter by then?

Very nice. I love the idea that he wanted to do this all along. And I love Pete :)

I think he wanted a couple of separate things, which conflicted with each other. He wanted Rose with him; that was clear throughout the Nine era and also with Ten. But, selfish as it was, he didn't want her with him at the expense of her life or her family. At the same time, he knew she'd dreamed of having her dad alive all her life - so I think he dreamed of finding some way of giving her that. If he couldn't have her with him, that was his 'fantastic life' for her: to give her a family.

In a way, what I'm getting at here is that it's the Doctor, not Rose, who has Daddy issues ;)

I always thought as much. The fact that she's now got the family she always wanted, plus a lot of money, and her best friend to boot? That's a lot of consolation on both sides, and too often, it's glossed over in favor of angst. This was a nice alternate perspective.

Ah, but I'm not sure that I buy that, for Rose at any rate. Yes, the Doctor can console himself that he's been able to give her all that, but is it really what Rose wanted in the end? She chose him over her family. She chose to leave her mum and Mickey and come back to him twice, both times in the full belief and understanding that she'd never see them again. As for money, I don't believe we ever saw her have any particular tendencies towards wanting it, or suggesting that she felt deprived through not having it ( ... )

Oh, nice! :) The Doctor trying to "fix" Rose's family is something I never thought about, to be honest, so I love how you've picked up on it in this. :) (Maybe because it's a family he thinks he can fix, unlike his own... *reading far too much into this*) Much love. :)

I hadn't thought of that perspective - that it's a family he can fix, as opposed to his own, which he can't - though I guess that could well have something to do with it too. I see it as him wanting to give Rose the one thing he thinks she wants above all: her father. Because, despite his anger in Father's Day, he did try to fix it for her, despite it being against the laws of Time and all that :)

And, of course, he is the Doctor because he wants to make people better. To fix them. He just doesn't always succeed, or always do it in the right way - witness Jack :(

i'm not the biggest fan of drabbles, was never too good at looking at things with an analytical perspective, but i really love people's comments to drabbles and the fact that you answer is just so wonderful. kinda goes deeper into the text, yeah? so i just wanted to say thankyou for that. tis a great fic, and i loved the image it pulled up in my mind, because really, i had never linked the three pete themed parts together like that.

well, for whatever sense i'm making with this comment, i really loved this fic, right down to the comments and the replies :D

Oh, you're making a lot of sense :) I never linked the three Petes in that way myself either until the idea for this drabble came to me this morning.

I do see what you mean about drabbles; they're very short, so nothing really meaty to get into. No story development, as such, and any character development is dealt with very quickly. What I hope to achieve with my drabbles is some sort of insight, though - as you say, an analysis :) And, like you, I love furthering the discussion of those insights and analysis in the comments.

I'm not always as timely as I should be in replying to comments *slaps self on wrist* but I love that, when I do, I do get some of this discussion :)

And thank you for commenting.
