Very nice. I love the idea that he wanted to do this all along. And I love Pete :)

I think he wanted a couple of separate things, which conflicted with each other. He wanted Rose with him; that was clear throughout the Nine era and also with Ten. But, selfish as it was, he didn't want her with him at the expense of her life or her family. At the same time, he knew she'd dreamed of having her dad alive all her life - so I think he dreamed of finding some way of giving her that. If he couldn't have her with him, that was his 'fantastic life' for her: to give her a family.

In a way, what I'm getting at here is that it's the Doctor, not Rose, who has Daddy issues ;)

I always thought as much. The fact that she's now got the family she always wanted, plus a lot of money, and her best friend to boot? That's a lot of consolation on both sides, and too often, it's glossed over in favor of angst. This was a nice alternate perspective.

Ah, but I'm not sure that I buy that, for Rose at any rate. Yes, the Doctor can console himself that he's been able to give her all that, but is it really what Rose wanted in the end? She chose him over her family. She chose to leave her mum and Mickey and come back to him twice, both times in the full belief and understanding that she'd never see them again. As for money, I don't believe we ever saw her have any particular tendencies towards wanting it, or suggesting that she felt deprived through not having it ( ... )

That's what I mean, though; it's a consolation. Regardless of everything, he left her so much better off than when he found her. He changed her for the better, and that's to me the whole point.

Of course there's grieving to do and all; as someone who's experienced a lot of loss, I don't mean to diminish that. But I think that once Rose came to terms with everything, she'd be left with primarily gratitude and contentment. She would hope to see him again, but she'd remember him as happily as she could.

It seems like we're sort of in agreement actually, we're just looking at it from different angles :)
