Yeah, Jack being vulnerable really changes the equation. I'm very interested to see where it goes next. And Gwen kicked ass. I'm really looking forward to the rest of Miracle Day.
It pulled my heart strings just a little when he identified himself as "Owen Harper, CIA." And it makes me wonder if he'll ever use Ianto Jones as an alias...
Me too but it somehow seemed rather fitting he would choose that name. Considering the circumstances around Owen's death. The unkillable taking the name of the undead.
I loved Gwen so much in this episode! I've never disliked her, but my fondness for her just increases every season. Her relationship to Rhys is wonderfully playful and affectionate.
In contrast, I found Rex's character to be really irritating (wouldn't the investigation be more likely to succeed if he delegated to someone not likely to pass out at any moment instead of limping off like a moron to do it all himself?), but I'm trying to give him a few more episodes before I pass judgment completely.
I can't wait to see more of Jack! I agree with you that seeing him vulnerable will be interesting, and I hope we hear a little bit more about what he's been up to since leaving Earth.
I liked Gwen at first, but she really plummeted in my estimation with the affair, her treatment of Rhys and so on, and while I tried to give her a second chance in S2 seeing her come on to Jack (or the alien in Jack's guise) on her wedding day destroyed that. But she was good in CoE, and really good in this first episode.
Oh, Rex is clearly intended to come across as a dipshit. I'm guessing, though, that he'll end up on Our Heroes' side by the end *g*
And I hope we do hear about Jack's travels. I love that the past isn't being ignored in this relaunch.
I'm so looking forward to this - it starts on Thursday over here.
Re Jack, I admit I'm a little worried that he'll end up having to make himself immortal to get the whole no-death thing fixed in the end, which sounds like an angsty re-run of CoE. But I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the show...
I really can't understand why the BBC isn't showing it at the same time. It's utterly ridiculous, and rather offensive to British fans given the series' origins.
I suspect that one way or another Jack will become immortal again, whether it's a fix he has to put in place himself or simply the consequence of putting things right. But while his mortality last it's definitely an interesting story: he's so accustomed to being immortal, so quick to jump in and take risks, that it'll be interesting to see how he behaves now that he knows he could be killed, or at least seriously hurt. It's not just his own death that could be a consequence, but probably the outcome of this entire situation, if Jack really believes that he's one of the few people with the ability to put this right. I am so looking forward to the rest of the series!

I'm sure there'll be at least one Ianto mention; I just hope Steven won't be forgotten (though it's clear Jack still mourns).
