TwitFail update

Sep 10, 2010 18:34

So crossposting of comments on locked entries to Facebook and Twitter will be prohibited in the next code-push, as will crossposting of screened comments - so if you're really worried about someone crossposting from a public entry you could screen all comments, or screen non-friend comments. However, the next code-push won't be for another two weeks.

In the meantime, I've seen people commenting that although they've used the custom CSS code to remove the TwitFail repost buttons from comment boxes on their LJ those buttons still appear when they post an entry. I've just found a fix for that - the wonderful Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper, also available for Chrome.

All I did was go to the post an entry page, click on Adblock Plus, click on Select Element to Hide, and then move my mouse down so that it selected the TwitFail repost boxes. One click, and they're gone for ever. My posting page now looks nice and clean again, with no unwanted advertising.

It's not perfect, and it's not the opt-out from this 'feature' that I want, but this and the coming ban on crossposting comments in locked entries is a considerable improvement.
