oh, eight.

i tried to do this by not looking at last year's responses but i don't know how i did that last year since i had to delete the previous responses. maybe i googled it? i have no idea. at any rate.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before? move in with a boyfriend... and get my own dog!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? i did keep some of them like: go to the dentist, get a haircut (9.5 inches donated!), get a raise, read more challenging articles, learn how to use my lomos, visit a new state (ny, finally), get two massages (though i just got the one in mexico, but it was so perfecto it damn well counts as two. plus all the ones i force adam to do for me since he's my slave). i slacked off on others, like opening an ira and becoming more involved with ucb. clearly i have problems following through with acronyms.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? i don't think so... just some old high school friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die? he wasn't close to me, but my high school band teacher died of a brain aneurysm, which was sad.

5. What countries did you visit? just mexico. and revisited it again for days afterward with delightful mexican parasites.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? a clean bedroom.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? the day we found franklin, after losing him three days earlier.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? finding franklin... working so hard on something and being rewarded. he was so worth it. also taking my health into my own hands and dealing with the problems instead of wishing them away.

9. What was your biggest failure? my weight, probably. and being miserable at work.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? many times... the most dramatic being, probably, the pre skin cancer mole. which adam found while playing connect the moles on my shoulder, and damn glad that he did. though the scar is still trying to heal, and the cortisone shot was unbearable, i'm glad we caught it in time. also, two bouts of food poisoning; e coli/parasites from mexico (and blood coming out of places it never, ever should); elbow tendonitis; and an appendicitis scare that resulted in a $2000 hospital bill, many hours of faxing forms and an eventual reduction to $200. oh and being sick ALL. THE. TIME.

11. What was the best thing you bought? franklin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and other superficial things like my big screen tv, the new apartment and its furnishings and anthropologie dresses. not my iphone though, that was a mistake. i'm serious.)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? adam's, for putting up with me and my (apart)mental issues. and america's for electing obama and california's for passing prop 2! (oh and the girl who called when she saw franklin in her neighbor's yard. :) )

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? how many people will list "palin's" here? cause i'll second that, and add palin supporters, mccain, fox news, prop 8 supporters, and that fucking santa claus massacre asshole.

14. Where did most of your money go? the apartment and stuff inside of it. shudder. so much stuff.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? finding franklin, moving in with adam, getting franklin. and franklin's rugby shirt from kim.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? probably m.i.a.'s paper planes, which went from being so awesome, to being used with the shithole express, er, pineapple express, to then being belatedly reclaimed by danny boyle.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier, i think.
ii. thinner or fatter? around the same, though i did lose 10 pounds at some point... then gained it back.
iii. richer or poorer? unfortunately the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? saving. extroverting.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? spending. introverting.

20. How did you spend Christmas? after having flights canceled for 2 days, and having my mom and sister sleep in our living room in california, finally getting a flight to seattle on 12/23. then being snowed in at home with my family, with a sick dad, looking at 4 foot long killer icicles dangling from my window, and not having adam come with me. stupid seattle snow storm.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? "hi, this is lauren with twm, how can i help you?" starting at 5 am pst. ugh. (my personal cell phone number became the website's only contact number. yeah.)

22. Did you fall in love in 2008? with a little one eyed rescue. (i mean franklin, not a penis.)

23. How many one-night stands? this question is so pointless when you've been dating someone for almost 3 years. though i did have some sexy dreams about house last night.

24. What was your favorite TV program? see above. i discovered the amazingness of house. and i still love 30 rock. finally got really into mad men, and started on psych. also the dog whisperer, dogtown, and skins (not about dogs).

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? P.A.L.I.N. and the jonas brothers.

26. What was the best book you read? well i never finished it, but "the world without us" is very interesting. and i just started "the secret life of words" which i received for christmas, also very good.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? hmm... i guess scroobius pip ... and the slumdog millionaire soundtrack? and the new girl talk album is brilliant, though i've already known about him.

28. What did you want and get? a new apartment, a dog, a raise.

29. What did you want and not get? ps3. blerg.

30. What was your favorite film of this year? wall-e! oh, my wall-e. followed by slumdog millionaire, iron man, dark knight and kung-fu panda.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? i turned 25 and was in new york having amazing cupcakes. i also had a birthday bbq in the lion's grotto at the abandoned zoo in griffith park.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? better health. not losing my sense of humor. and actually unpacking when we moved in together. whoops.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? "hurry up and put this on so you can get through this work day and then you can go home and put on your pajama pants."

34. What kept you sane? adam, franklin, friends, house.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? let's see... i don't know, actually. there are always the classics, but i also have an eye on hugh laurie, but only as house. not as his british self.

36. What political issue stirred you the most? is there even another answer to this question? (obama/prop 2/prop 8) though i think, honestly, the fact that sarah palin could possibly be president was also a horrible, horrible moment, stirring in a brutal, vomit inducing way. and mumbai shootings, the economic collapse, etc.

37. Who did you miss? those on the wrong coast and traveling around asia.

38. Who was the best new person you met? did i even meet anyone new?? yikes. that's kind of sad.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008: there were many... to give everybody a chance before writing them off, to stop judging so much, to believe in hard work paying off, and, is this too cheesy?, yes we can.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

maybe i'd get my life on track
and start to focus my attack
on all the things my life just lacks
start to claw my passion back
instead of living like a hack
half committed, half relaxed
...i'd have nothing to lose.

-scroobius pip
