Charlie was a monkey because, well, he is a monkey.  And somehow Lori convinced B she should be the banana to her brother's monkey, though I think B has been regretting it ever since.  I do not think she will ever dress up as a banana again.  But she's cute in any costume and Charlie is ADORABLE in his monkey suit.
