Archives of Excellence: And the winner is...

Dec 04, 2009 16:01

Me.

I can't flippin' believe it! Usually, when someone wins the monthly challenge, I'll put their names up on the hall of fame in the Archives, and give them a congratulatory spot in the site blog, in the challenge thread and in here, but for myself? Weird!

Voting is done by a blind poll. Only I can see the results. I've known for a while that I was in pole position, but I called for more votes to give the others a chance and delayed calling the winner for a day. I was hoping that Virtuella, FullhouseandPixarlover or StarSpray would win - I liked theirs the best. It's so hard to tell which way voting will go, though. It's usually a dead cert that a cute story will win, but StarSpray winning last month surprised me. Bob's victory in the first one poleaxed me: few of us know the fandom, but he is a good writer and he did deserve to win. So what I'm saying is, there's no way to predict these things. Honestly, I thought my safe canon-bound choice would come third or fourth - as usual. But I've flippin' won! Wow!

I'll wear the winner's trophy for a few days, then revert to the Challenge one. But man, it feels strange - and very humbling - to win a contest I'm running myself. I mean, aw, shucks, they liked my fic! Squee!

But yeah, it does feel good to win. Thanks to all of you who voted for me. :D
