Hi Livejournal! I have all kinds of news for you! I moved! I moved to Minnesota. I live in a lovely townhouse in a lovely town that is a suburb of Saint Paul.
It's been a craptastic couple of weeks. Yesterday being the most bizarre day I've had in awhile. Most of this entry is copy and pasted from somewhere else, so if you frequent the other place, you'll have to here my whine twice.
I've been applying for jobs like crazy. I had a couple of offers, which I turned down. One of these jobs required a criminal background check before they offered me employment. I agreed and asked them to send me the results in the mail.
I received a copy of the background check in the mail yesterday.
There is a federal felony on the report. For selling drugs. I am very anti-drug. I've never done any kind of illegal drug and get weird when people do them around me. Ironically, the report did not catch either one of my tickets. The tickets really are mine. Oh also, in one part of the report it says that I am 87 years old.
I called the company that performed the background check. They say they do not verify social security numbers, just names and birthdays. My birthday matches exactly. My name nearly matches. The middle name is off. Thank Jeebus for my unusual middle name. Also, at the time of this felony I was still using my maiden name. Apparently, none of this matters. They still turned it into the company I applied at. The representative I spoke to at the asshat background check company said to fax my driver's license showing my middle name and physical identifiers and they will remove the charges. Before I realized that the last name they had on the record was not my last name at the time the felony was commited, I asked her if she thought my identity had been stolen. She said "No, there are a lot of *last names* out there." Ya think, nit wit? Why did you report it then?
I did actually find a job I wanted. I accepted it last week. I drove 45 minutes through downtown Minneapolis to get a pre-employment drug screening. The second I got there I realized I forgot the damn chain of custody form and had to drive back again. So, 3 hours round trip for a piss test. Went through the background and piss test, just to find out the lab lost my pee yesterday. I was very proud of that pee. I held it for 3 hours and I peed way over the required line. I was not thrilled about having to do it again. But thankfully, they found it today and all is good.
This 87-year-old federal felon is employed again.
