Disclaimer: Harry Potter is JKR’s sandbox. I just like to build sand castles.
Author’s Notes: These are little drabbles I wrote for a meme that was going around. The object was to put your iTunes on shuffle and write a drabble inspired by whatever songs came up, stopping when the song was over. I cheated a little, but here are the results. Gwen Jones and Reese Ashley are based on the characters played by

caliga_rpg. Michael Corner is based on the character played by

pinksheep_wench. Snape is based on Snape.

Song: Perhaps Vampires is a Bit Strong, But... by Arctic Monkeys
Well I ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes
That might be a surprise but it's true
That I'm not like you and I don't want your advice
Or your praise or to move in the ways you do
And I never will
Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail
"... and you're playing Quidditch these days, is that right?" the coiffed and made-up society matron asked, placating condescension dripping from her lips.
Gwen held her gaze. "Yes, I've just been added to the starting roster for the Holyhead Harpies."
She was proud of her accomplishments, no matter what this woman thought. She'd braved disapproval from worse than this haughty bitch and her ilk. These plastic crones who talked about life but never lived a day of it. It was nothing new. Francis Jones had inoculated her daughter against any concern over what others thought with her own sniffs and scoldings when she'd deigned to acknowledge the child she'd never wanted.
One day, though, Gwen would show them all.

Song: Music When the Lights Go Out by The Libertines
And alarm bells ring
when you say your heart still sings
when you're with me.
Won't you please forgive me?
I no longer hear the music
Her song was soft. Lilting and pleasant, unspoiled. Different from the other women he knew, though Michael found all the women in his life beautiful in their own way. It was the sweetness of her smile that had pulled him, though, and led him to act where he had not done so with others.
As she lifted her eyes to his from across the room, that same sweet smile gracing her features, no music filled him as it had before. His eyes lacked their brightness as his lips curled in return, knowing it was the last time such sweetness would be his to receive. To save the song, he would sacrifice the smile.

Song: Nowhere to be Found by Sera Cahoone
Why is it you walked away
All I said is you're the only one
[...]
All you know is all you have
And it's not enough
Her brush moved across the canvas instinctively. Often Reese felt the colors were flowing through her on their own and she was only watching as they swirled and became.
A swath of dark blue-black covered over the tiny spots of golden yellow in its path, removing a bit more of the light in his painting. He hadn't returned this evening, or the one before. One day he would stop coming altogether, but for now she would wait and watch as more and more of him disappeared.
Severus Snape
Song: Nemesis by Shriekback
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully correctly wrong
Severus tipped the beaker upward, carefully releasing a single drop into the roiling dark liquid that filled his cauldron. The Dark Lord waited for the draught, impatient to have it in his grasp, but the art would not be rushed. Potions was precision, the ability sense the moment when a simple elixir would be transformed by a delicate touch to bring ill fortune, to bend one's will, to control another's destiny.
