He tastes like peppermint and scotch and dark chocolate.
It takes a whole bottle of expensive French champagne to get the taste of him out of her mouth. She’s sick later. She doesn’t know whether it’s him or the alcohol.
(She’s positive it’s him. Even with medical knowledge pointing to the contrary.)
When Nate kisses her for the first time after their break up, there’s a strange look in his eyes.
It’s not lust or love like she’d desperately hoped for, but confusion. Like he’s trying to place something that’s not quite right
I slept with your best friend! Her mind screams. Can’t you see that?
He doesn’t. He’s always been oblivious when it comes to her.

Sometimes, on days when she’s feeling particularly horrible, she’ll eat some peppermints and dark chocolate and wash it down with scotch.
It tastes bitter going down (like him), but the after taste is sweeter than she could’ve ever imagined.
Even if it is just a substitute for the real thing.
