I have to get off the computer shortly, so this is going to be rather brief, but I wanted to register my opinion on the World Cup. I want to express the fact that I was extremely disappointed in Zidane's behavior on Sunday night. I think that the least a professional athlete who makes millions every year can do is to keep his/her cool on the playing field. I can certainly sympathize with the frustration of being taunted or insulted in the midst of a competitive game or sport, but that is no excuse to lash out physically. It was even more disappointing to me because I had chosen to support France, and there's no telling how the match might have turned out if Zidane could have kept it together for another ten minutes. I have no idea who he would have replaced in the shootout, but there's no doubt he would have had a shot in it. Also, his presence as a great soccer player and an eleventh man could have turned the tide in the last minutes of the game. In all, I was saddened to see a man whom I had great respect for as a brilliant soccer player taint his career with such a lack of self control in the final minutes of the World Cup.
More from Vienna on another day.
