YMMV eddaddy September 25 2007, 08:58:36 UTC
I take Wellbutrin as well, and initial effectiveness is highly variable, but everyone I have talked to has eventually had good results with this medication. You sound like one of the fortunate few that gets immediate results...that's great! It is a very safe medication, the only real precaution is that it is possible to get TOO happy until you adjust (I gave away a paycheck because I did not care about money because I felt so good)...a mood stabilizer such as Depakote will help if necessary, just let your psych professional monitor you...you probably won't need it...
glad you are feeling better *hugs*

PS eddaddy September 25 2007, 09:05:31 UTC
there is a short term memory loss due to distraction of feeling better, mainly! I am on 300 mg Wellbutrin plus 3 other allegedly "heavy" pysch meds and still rate an IQ of 143 on the Mensa home test! When you are not distracted by mental illness, I find the increased clarity more than makes up for any physical detriment to the intellect, though there is a slight reduction of speed in cognitive ability (you get there slower, but you get "there" more often than you did before)...

Personal experience: Paxil vs. Wellbutrin eddaddy September 26 2007, 22:46:25 UTC
I take both. My own personal experience is that Paxil is great for social anxiety, but less than impressive as an anti-depressant. I have heard both a few horror stories and several glowing reports concerning its use. It apparently is a highly variable drug depending on the user. As an anti-depressant, Wellbutrin is far more consistent. Everybody I have talked to who uses it eventually reports good results, but usually it takes time (3-6 weeks) for reliable results. Some get very happy from day 1 (rare), average consistent results seems to be 3-4 weeks. At some point it is common to feel high (even s**tfaced) for a brief stretch, but once it is in full swing it works in the background...you experience it only as a lack of depression and lethargy, rather than a distracting buzz, which is the way a proper psych med is supposed to work ( ... )
