3. A Sword from Red Ice: A Sword of Shadows Novel Book 3 - J.V. Jones - 622 pages. Third book in the series, this one focuses on the separate stories of characters from the first two novels. Ash March, Raif Severance, Effie Severance, Bram Cormac, Vaylo Bludd and Raina Blackhail all get several chapters on what has been happening between the Clans, The Sull, the Cityfolk and a variety of other groups. Excellent epic fantasy novel.
4. The Execution Channel - Ken MacLeod - 285 pages. A sort of spy novel set in the future that focuses on 3 members of one family that are inextricably linked to some "bomb scares" and are on the run. A sidebar to the story is a CCTV type channel that shows executions 24/7 all over the world... both prison and random murder types. I enjoyed the deep character development and wondering what was going to happen next.
5. Chasing the Dead: A Novel - Joe Schreiber - 196 pages. A quick mystery/horror read. The main character is a divorced Mom caring for her daughter and picking up the pieces of her broken marriage. One snowy night she receives a phone call that brings back a horrific event from her childhood and places her on a wild and scary ride through a snowy night.
