12. A Taint in the Blood: A Kate Shugak Novel - Dana Stabenow - 305 pages. At the beginning of this book, Kate is running around the Park helping people out because she is thankful for all they've done for her and her adopted son. People are starting to get tired of her butting in and helping them out, without their asking for it. Early in the book, she gets asked to be a private investigator for a woman whose mother has been in prison for over 30 years. Kate heads to Anchorage and starts investigating. The mystery gets deeper and deeper as she investigates, and other problems come out of the woodwork. I really enjoyed this one, as it delves further into the story between Kate and Trooper Jim!
