42. The Secret History - Donna Tartt - 559 pages. Timeless book about a group of friends, murder, intrigue and the inter-relationships between them. I call it timeless, because apparently it is set in the 70's / early 80's at an eastern private college, but the students seem like something out of the 50's. Ooh, I loved that book! In fact, I'm really itching to re-read it, despite the growing "must-read" pile on my bookshelves.

I can also recommend her second book, The Little Friend. I found the ending to be a little cliff-hanger-esque, but I still really enjoyed the book, especially because the characters seem very realistic and identifiable. :)

I started that book & got to page 50 and put it down. It wasn't for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. I'm about to read "The Secret Life of Bees" I"ve heard mixed things about it.

Everyone has their own preferences and quirks when it comes to favorite authors. I'm now starting on a run of Ridley Pearson mystery/thrillers which were recommended to me by the same person. At least it is a break from sci-fi/horror/fantasy.
