ATTENTION RECENT MLIS GRADS:
Start your career as a children's librarian with us! The community of Moroni Dunes, Utah is seeking a SOLO LIBRARIAN INTERN for the 2006-2007 school year. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience as the sole librarian in our to our thriving community of 20 men, 200 women, and 631 (and counting) children! Our library trailer is located in the center of town next to the worship trailer, making it the hub of learning of our children, all of whom are home-schooled and visit the library daily after morning worship.
Requirements:
A Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
No computer skills are required as our library is not automated. All you need is a love of books and children!
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, although candidates with experience are welcome to apply. Our last intern had 5 years experience, and we may raise the experience requirement if the expected number of applications are received.
Duties:
-Select appropriate books which will strengthen the faith of our families.
-Plan and give daily story-hours for children of all ages, using the stories in The Bible, The Book of Mormon, and other family-friendly texts.
-Manage inter-library loans of homeschooling materials at the request of mother-teachers.
-Meet regularly and secretly with the 20 men on our town's leadership council to inform them of requests for inappropriate titles/subjects.
-Catalog books using the old-fashioned card-catalog, as there are NO COMPUTERS in Moroni Dunes.
Moroni Dunes, Utah is a close-knit community of true adherents to the faith, proudly unaffiliated with the LDS church and the compromises they have made. REMUNERATION: A stipend of $400 /month will be awarded to the successful candidate. As a bonus, lodging for one in the spare room of the library trailer will be provided at no charge for the first month only. The men of Moroni Dunes do not officially discriminate against candidates based on marital status, but cannot guarantee the availability of housing for spouses and existing children of the candidates. Interns are expected to work a 40 hour week (including evenings and weekends), plus additional volunteer hours on demand. A health plan will not be provided, and candidates who are ineligible for state benefits must provide proof of health coverage on arrival.
We expect an extremely large number of applicants, so only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted. Your experience at the Moroni Dunes library may jump-start your career! In the event that suitable employment cannot be found at the end of your internship, the SOLO LIBRARIAN INTERN will be eligible to apply for the position of CHILD CARE PROVIDER INTERN, currently held by our previous library intern.
