Mini Vacation Day 2: cutthroat in more ways than one

Was woken early this morning by a booming clash of thunder and lightning that illuminated the whole of my bedroom. The rain poured down from the skies in hurricane like proportions and I lay there wondering how the Oregon weather had managed to follow me down to my beloved sunny San Diego. However in true desert fashion the clouds cleared themselves away by 10am and the sun shone brightly dissipating the rainny smells of sage and eucalyptus into the air. My early rise was was greeted by fresh fruit and warm 90 minute cinnamon rolls right from the oven. So spoiled.

A brief shopping trip ensued, fashionable clothes purchased, then home for pizza and cabbage salad. Those Costco pizzas are really great to have around the house. Cut up and fozen they are easy to reheat in the oven and serve as a quick lunch. Bit of lounging was broken up by heading to a Kinkos to copy some recipes from a very old book. Extensive recipes, with photos, are jsut easier to photo copy as re-printing in script requires ALOT of time.

Around 5pm we headed out to the Old Town Mexican Cafe for some Carnitas, margaritas and Modelo Especial. mmmmmm how I miss good carnitas. Will need to make it at home more often. quick stroll around Old Town confirmed my fears, new owners, new shops and a new vibe. Oh how the world turns in the places you've known.

Seeing Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on stage was a rare treat for me. Having read the book and seen the film I can honestly say live theatre is the way to go with this one. The play was put on by the Cygnet Theatre Company at the Old Town Theatre, a nice smaller venue with close a personal feel. Sean Murray and Deborah Smyth were a tremendous duo, creating a charged tempo and atmosphere that only leaves me reeling at the quality Angela Lansbury, Len Cariou and Victor Garber must have brought under the direction of Harold Prince.
