South Louisiana Pipeliners at Bay Area Toros (Double Header)-August 22, 2009

Last two games of the regular season for us. Can you believe that summer's almost over? Certainly doesn't feel like it here in Texas. It's hotter than ever! The game was supposed to start at 4:00 but didn't get going until 4:45. I guess someone slept in? So while I was sitting there listening to the pregame music, a dialog came over the speakers... a lead in to "I Like Big Butts." One of our guys was walking across the field near the plate and yelled, "I like big butts and I cannot lie!" I laughed. He'd continue to do that all night, singing a bit of the songs that had been played between innings while he was out there in the field. Gotta' love an attitude like that. :) Also before the game, someone came over the speakers and said, "Bolt, look at the scoreboard." I looked, and there in the message portion, it said "Bolts my hero." (No apostrophes avaialable, I guess.) Jim Bolt is the head coach. Hah. It seemed that the people in the pressbox where trying to mess with our guys' heads at first. When our leadoff batter, stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first, they played "Dancing Queen." He just grinned and shook his head as he walked up to the batter's box. And then coach yelled something like, "Let's go, ABBA!" to him. The next guy got a Britney Spears song, and then the pressbox cut it out. We won 4-1.

The second game was a little closer, but we still won by one. They randomly played "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys for one of our player's walk up songs. Well it ended, but the opposing dugout sang the song until the end of the first chorus. It was hilarious. At one point in the game, some guy in the crowd came over and asked how many Toros had been left on base. I was able to make a quick tally and give him an answer. That was cool.

And then, near the end of the game, I spied a little kid who appeared to be walking towards me. I figured he was headed for the ramp I was sitting by, but was surprised when he came right up to me and held out a signed ball. And this is when the incident I wrote about earlier happened. Made my night!

And as a random aside, I was just looking at the Coastal Kingfish site and found that they're using one of my photos. That makes me laugh. A link back to my flickr page would have been nice, though. Does anyone else think that page reads like a eulogy? Poor Kingfish.
