I love you 'wela. To be really honest, there's not a lot you could do or say at this point to change that, because I know that what you say comes from the heart. Even when we don't agree with each other, I respect you for that from the depths of my soul. My reasons... well, to be truthful, it isn't just about the female/male balance. (Although, to be really truthful, the sarcasm and dismissal of the way I felt about it from certain men seriously did nothing more than illustrate exactly WHY I feel the way I do.) I've been there when certain fighters have, in all seriousness, talked about stacking the deck in favor of themselves with others of like-minded political goals if same-sex consorts become a possibility. And yeah, at a certain point in time, these fighters were very, very capable of making it happen. Just because we see the SCA as a game, doesn't mean that all do. Just because we want the game to be played fairly, doesn't mean that all will. And as sure as there is "voting" in Crown Lists now, this situation, in my mind, is pretty much inevitable, given what I've seen of people in my life. I don't own rose-colored glasses when it comes to what people are capable of. Saying that on the Calon List though... Well, there would be the dismissal of, "Yeah, like that would happen" or, "Unless you're willing to name names, I don't believe it." Can that problem be solved? Yeah... if you set up the rules to prohibit authorized fighters from fighting for each other. And if you do that, you've created another sub-set of people who are prohibited from fighting for the people they care about, too. I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't mean to disappoint you with my opinion. Like I said, I respect that you are speaking from your heart, and that's good with me.
And knowing your life experiences, I completely understand where you are coming from -- and yes, the condescending nature of some of the male responses to you pissed me off completely. (Revenge is a dish best served cold, though; remember that! ;-) ) So, as long as I still love you and you still love me, I'm happy.
I can't say that there is wiggle room in the Crown Lists; but if there was that much room, Logan would be a Mega-Duke, if I had any say. But you're right, I can think of two fighters who have entered Crown time after time, and they will never win. Not because they weren't good enough to win at one time, just because it was decided (subconsciously, I think) that they shouldn't. No one said a word, but they never won. So, yeah, we seem to have a way to police Crown, but I honestly don't know how it works, if it really exists. I, too, heard discussions among fighters as to how to bend the system, but in truth, none of them I heard discuss it ever became King.
