Queensday.....*Rant Alert*

Apr 30, 2009 11:36

I might hate Queensday but for some idiot to drive through a crowd in a car towards the royal family. Just driving over all the people standing there watching our Queen. 2 Deaths, 21 hurt.
I can't believe this.
I thought we were a civilized country. I thought wrong.

Ever seen a crowd full of mindless people dressed in the most horrid colour to wear (a.k.a orange) drinking their eyeballs out all in the name of "long live the queen"? Neh? Come here on the 30th of April. Or rather, don't.
I just think it's really hypocritical. In a recent poll, 59 percent of the dutch people said they thought we could do without the royal family. So you'd expect most people to sit at home and ignore Queensday. But of course not. Because Queensday is the perfect reason for Dutch people to do what they do best. Act like complete morons and get completely wasted. And Hurray! The 5th of May is our day of freedom, when we're supposed to celebrate the day we we're freed by the allied troops from the Germans in WOII. It's a nice thought, having a day to remember how free we can live in our country. But of course, most of my lovely fellow dutchies just see this as another oppurtunity to get as drunk as possible. And since this is Leeuwarden, end up in a huge fight on the streets.....

I spit on them.

I hate people drinking alcohol just to get drunk. I mean if you want a beer or a glass of wine at dinner, or when you're sitting somewhere with friends, i wouldn't bother you. But if the whole purpose of going somewhere, or getting together, is to drink, i'll spit on you. 10 glasses of beer isn't a normal amount. It's abuse. And don't get me started on the mindless noobs who drink even more than that, which in my countries tradition are quite a few of them.

It's not that i completely hate Queensday. I guess it's a normal thing for a country with a monarchy to have a day where you celebrate having a king or queen. And i did went to the city early this morning. I decided i should at least take a walk everyday, (Hippo coming through!) hoping to loose some weight, so i thought "why not walk through the center and see what people are trying to sell". Because a Queensday tradition i do like is the tradition where people sell all the stuff they don't need. Or at least try to. Just imagine a huge car/garage sale, but on the pavements of the streets. Sometimes, there are some jewels between all the junk. Today there wasn't, though i did buy a teddybear to support our animalpolice. Anyone interested in a brown teddy? It's really soft!
I left the house at 9.30 and was home again at 11.00 so that's a good one and a half hour walk. Yay for me!

Ahhh and to rant on. I went to Amsterdam yesterday with Hugo, because he's never seen the Rijksmuseum and the Nachtwacht (by Rembrandt) I've been there before and i like Rembrandt's works, he's really good at putting emotion in the faces of the persons he's depicting. I also love the still-lives which point at Memento Mori, with all the half-eaten and rotten fruits. I do wonder how some of them can make the silver of plates and bowls look like real, shiny silver, instead of lumps of paint.
On the other hand, i did think it was a bit of a rip-off. 11 euro's with not even half of the museum opened for public since they are remodifying the museum. But a cultural thing nonetheless. Ticking that of the to-do-list.

After that, we had some time left and since we were in Amsterdam, we of course went shopping. But even in Amsterdam i couldn't find anything nice!! All the clothes are in those terrible off-colours. Offwhite, Off-blue, off-red, off-pink. Just horrid! I'm not a baby anymore, i want real, hardcore colours! I want red-red! Not a red which looks like it has seen the washingmachine at least 100 times!! *sighs*
Only in one of the last stores (Newyorker, i love that brand but sadly most things don't fit fatty me) there was some nice stuff. Most of it didn't fit me right, though i did bought a nice new bra for only 13 euro's!
And on our way back, by train ofcourse, there were these huge delays everywhere because Queensnight was starting in almost every city and our railwaycompany can't handle that. Yeah Queensnight, something which started to even prolong the drinking and being obnoxious. Joy.

*grumble*

I want chocolate.
My period is starting any day now. I suggest you all hide.
And my apoligies for everyone i've been a bit unkind too lately. I'm PMS-ing like mad.
Joy.
