Canada cannot remember America's first time )
None of the brothers did manage to detach themselves from England.
For all of Canada's inner thoughts of not caring, he measures himself and his brother against England, too. His perception of England is horribly skewed. Granted, England can be manipulative and smooth with his words, but he's not that good enough to do everything with so much intention put behind every action. England can be mean and ruthless but more often than not he himself never thinks about the consequences of his manipulations. that much. (referring to the nuclear testing fic I just reviewed)
It's not so much Canada/America, but kinda twisted love triangle. It's Canada being jealous of America and angry at England for forcing him his language, his teachings and impacting him in such irrevocable ways. Canada is more similar to England than America is to England and Canada blames England for it.
Canada is such a...mess of complicated thoughts of feelings here. (Oh, Angleterre, if you could see him now, would you still love him? Would you?) - this line. I cannot tell whether Canada sought to ruin England's life through ruining America, or whether Canada is jealous (of who, exactly? why is Canada so unhappy with himself?), or both. Probably both.
The way you write angst is so captivating. Thank you so much for sharing.

The two brothers are definitely too attached to England (who is likely not aware of it himself). Actually, America's over-attachment to England was always in my headcanon, mainly based on how much Americans seem to fawn over British accents/the Beatles/study abroad in the UK (usually England)/etc.
As for Canada's feelings, I was going for both -- he was jealous, angry, and wanted to hurt England to feel better. At the same time I also feel like Canada himself doesn't know exactly what he wants, he's just doing what he does for some temporary happiness. It's almost like a form of Stockholm Syndrome.
And thanks for these long reviews -- they're very appreciated! :)
