My mother likes to eat pig's blood and innards but I am way too squeamish. At most, I just nibble at chicken feet(phoenix claw my foot!) unwillingly when they end up on my plate.

Huh, I never knew it was good for pregnant women, although the fact that it's from Jiangsu would probably explain why I'm familiar with it. ;D (As well as why my grandma was very gung-ho about getting us kids to eat it!)
And whenever "gizzard" or "intestines" show up on menus, I always laugh. :D

My mother likes to eat pork blood cubes mixed with pig intestines but I think it's stinky. When you buy it outside, you never know if they cleaned the intestines properly.
I find it kinda demoralizing that there are so many of Yao's dishes that I have never heard of simply because his provinces are so diverse.
I just showed this to another comm member: The most glorious representative of HK Cantonese food I have ever seen in miniature.

The roast meats, herbal tea and claypot rice are classic Cantonese cuisine which HK shares with mainland.

That's actually a good point about the intestines. Half the times I just don't think about the potential dirtiness..:P It's kind of funny because I also find black pudding to be not my taste, and that's basically blood galore.
Oh dang, those are so cute. :D I gotta say I was always into those fake food displays in furniture stores, now I really want some roasted meat... And I'd love to tour China just for food's sake...:P

When you think about it, it's actually pig sh*t in the intestines...
I just had roasted pork for lunch today like one of the hunks on the hook:

Yesterday, I was watching TV, and they introduced this Shanghainese dish called 辣麻腰花 in which they slice kidneys finely, are you familiar with it?
I saw this today and thought of your fic:

Woah, nice, that looks gooood. :) I want a nice lunch, haha. I had 锅贴, but unfortunately for me, it was burnt. D:
The name sounds familiar, but I don't think I've ever eaten it before. I'd love to try it though. Taken to liking more spicy foods recently, somehow...
Oh dang, that is, um, disturbingly hilarious! I really hope our two countries don't clash at any point in the future, though luckily I don't think video games make a difference. I'll have to get outta here before then, haha. There's also an game called "America's Army" http://www.americasarmy.com/ that was developed by the U.S. army for recruitment purposes.

Interesting article today:
http://blogs.wsj.com/scene/2011/03/02/why-breakfast-matters-for-chinese-tourists/
That looks like Cantonese-style congee in the pic. The stuff I grew up eating was different.
What do you eat for breakfast? My ideal breakfast is either crisp waffles with ice cream or blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup.
My mother buys me breakfast though so I usually get 包子, glutinous rice etc. :( Today was sesame pancake thingy with fresh soy milk.

Ooh, I've heard lots of reports from relatives that they don't feel like they've eaten until they've had a bowl of rice, so I guess that congee phenomenon must be similar.
I actually...often don't eat breakfast. :( But when I do, it ranges somewhere from cereal to a hastily made pb&j (and ideally, I'd have avocado) sandwich to fruit smoothies. And if I could get pancakes with real maple syrup every day, I think I'd go nuts with glee. :P
Is it just plain glutinous rice or do you get it wrapped in certain ways? (*cough* I love 粽子, but I can't afford to buy it for daily consumption)

Yeah, maple syrup's expensiveness is unfortunate...although that may be a good thing since I can't eat it every day then. ;P
I haven't seen anyone do pre-orders for 粽子 around here, but my mother probably won't for the same reason as yours -- stinginess. I think she's waiting for the post-端午节 sale, which might not even happen, meaning that I'll never get my fill. D: I should just make my own 粽子 with fancy fillings! and fail totally along the wayAhaha, yes, I've heard that theory about Qu Yuan! Someone should -- this idea would be hilarious ( ... )

Oh, mine does it...sometimes, although we never make the wrap (those come pretty cheaply from various stores), just the fillings. And I wish we had the money to get abalone filling. I think I went into one of those ginseng stores (which all of my relatives are obssessed with) and saw abalone for a ridiculously high price per pound. ;P
Ahaha, those fics sound quite...hilarious. And if you ever do write it, link me! :D haha, that's true that some people will be offended, but good writing often offends. ;)Mine are also coming out around that time, I think. Yeah, our test had these long reading passages, and then only one or two questions to go with it, so the reading took forever. D: Hopefully you do well though. :) Do you think the easier classes will likely be boring for you? ( ... )

Yeah, I can see that Yao alright! And I always felt like homosexuality was more accepted in the ancient days. It kind of makes me wonder what changed -- did people just embrace Confucius that much more or something?
Haha, and Confucius is one of the Four Olds, but I think the Chinese government is taking a very different attitude to that now. I heard there's this Han culture revivalist movement -- 国学热 I think it's called ( ... )
