I've missed talking science and natural wonders of our earth and universe. So in the last few weeks a couple of things have happened nature wise.
The most recent was tonight (or yesterday approximately 3 and a 1/2 hours ago), when an earthquake happened here. We've had a couple (one two or so years ago and another a few years before that) that made walls shake for a moment. I believe I missed both.
This one I surely did not miss.
The tremors lasted about 20-40 seconds, I'm not sure exactly because I did start worrying near the end if it was going to stop or what was really happening.. The windows shook, the walls shook, the whole room and house started to shake slightly and the ground shook and rolled beneath my feet. I heard a motorcyclist riding just before the tremor, and it was silent after the tremor passed but then I heard it start up again. I think they didn't want to ride on their bike during the shake for some reason! Haha.
Certainly the biggest we've had in Victoria for years currently being registered as 5.3. Not tiny but certainly nowhere enormous. And I'm really glad I wasn't at the epicentre, I would have freaked probably.

Now, to point our gaze off our land and into the sky! Who witnessed the transit of Venus across the Sun live the other week? A few cool pictures from the site I watched it passing on. I strangely enough didn't have access to those specialist sun goggles to view the Sun directly, nor did I set up a telescope onto a surface for the shadow effect live. But the hosts were entertaining enough.
The left one is a picture from Broome, Australia. On the right is a view from Hawaii. :)
